Andrew Cornelius Harris, 83, son of the late Deacon Charlie S. and Deaconess Jane Brooks Harris, was born February 10, 1935 and transitioned to eternal life on Tuesday, August 28, 2018.  His wife of 50 years, Laura Hooker Harris, preceded him in death.  Andrew was also preceded in death by his brothers James, Sidney, Frank, John Eric and Joseph; sisters Vernetta Harris and Dorothy Trice; nephew Charles Trice and nieces Vanessa Gail, Odessa and Cheryl Harris.

Raised in a Christian home, Andrew joined the Ebenezer Baptist Church and was baptized by the late Rev. R. J. Robertson.  A faithful member, he had served on the Senior Choir and Usher Board.  In later years then-Pastor Joseph Haden designated Andrew as a Trustee and he served as Chairman during the pastorate of the late Rev. Alonzo Carter.  He also sang on the Men's Chorus and attended Sunday School.  Former pastor Rev. Roger Jones saw God calling Andrew to a greater work and ordained him as Deacon, where he served capably as Chairman.  Andrew loved the Lord and was a mighty witness for Him and a humble servant.

He is survived by a loving family: children, Darryl Harris Holt and Darwin Harris; grandchildren Jared Holt and Brittany and Lauren Harris; great-grandchildren Jordyn Holt and Nicholas Harris; sisters Eva Shelton (Vergie, who was his best friend of nearly 70 years) and his twin Nan Johnson; brothers Thomas and George (Marian); 40 nieces and nephews including Sidney and Earl Richardson for who he was a father figure, and Robert "Bob" Harris who was raised with him.  He also leaves his special friend, Gussie Thurston; a devoted family friend, Louise Langhorne; Laura's family; many cousins and the Ebenezer Baptist Church family.

Andrew's wisdom and love will be truly missed by his family, church and community.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Ebenezer Baptist Church 864 Pendleton Road Mineral, VA 23117 with Rev. Temple Anderson, Sr., officiating and Rev. William House, eulogist. Interment will follow in Spring Grove Memorial Cemetery.
