Alma Mealy Quarles, 88, was born March 22, 1924 to the late William Albert and Nellie Jenkins Mealy of Columbia, VA. Alma passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at Henrico Doctors' Hospital – Forest Campus in Richmond, VA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore R. Quarles, Sr.; one sister, Lola Quarles and two brothers, Bernard and Roger L. Mealy of Goochland, VA.

Alma was lovingly called "Big Momma" by all who knew her, whether you've always known her or just meeting her, she was introduced as Big Momma.

Big Momma leaves to cherish her memory, her children: Theodore R. Quarles, Jr. (Sally) of Fort Meyers, FL, Gail "Donnie" Harris (Louis) of Louisa, VA, Lionel Quarles, Sr. of Louisa, VA, Albert Quarles (Sylvia) of Louisa, VA, Wallace Quarles (Myrtis) of Goochland, VA, Stanley Quarles (Doneta) of Spotsylvania, VA and Karen Hawkins (Donnell) of Aberdeen, Md; one sister, Maureen Athey of Goochland, VA, two brothers, William "Joe" Lynberg (Ada) of Sandy Hook, VA, Warren Mealy (Erma) of Louisa, VA; one sister-in-law, Susie Quarles of Louisa, VA; 19 Grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 13, 2013, at 2:00 PM at Zion Travelers Baptist Church, located at 3662 Roundabout Road, Louisa, VA 23093. The Reverend Gilbert Bates will be officiating. Viewing will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2013 from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
