Alice Frances Moss Taylor, age 92, entered peacefully and quietly into eternal rest on March 16, 2011, at Woodmont Nursing Home, Fredericksburg, VA.
Alice Taylor was born on January 15, 1919, to the late Ira S. and Irene Thurston Moss. After many years of living at her grandfather's house, she moved back to the Ira Moss home place where she resided until July 2010, at the age of 91. Alice Taylor joined New Site Baptist Church, Louisa, VA at an early age while living with her grandmother and remained a member until health would no allow her to attend. However, she always called the First New Hope Baptist Church her church, as she came up through this church from the time her mother played the piano there, attending all services and having her children baptized in this church.
"Mother" as she was called, loved to cook and truly enjoyed carrying dinner to both churches and having people tell her how great her food tasted. A compliment on her coconut cake could get you a big smile and a second piece to take home. Mother attended the local school with all her relatives and friends, having to walk miles to school and then come home to do chores. At an early age, she and her sister, Elizabeth, left to work in New Jersey after which she came home to marry Joshua Taylor. Three children were born to this union. Mother was fortunate that she did not work outside the home while raising her family. Later, she worked many jobs, including Fredericksburg Country Club, Carriage Hill Nursing Home, school bus driver, and a nurse companion to many in the local area. In this work, she quickly made many friends and established relationships that she treasured until the end. Mother liked to travel and her travels took her to several places far and wide, where she continued to make new friends and acquaintances.
Alice leaves to cherish her memory, three children, Joshua, Jr. (Marion), Frances Gant (Charles) and Martin (Pamela); six grandchildren, Joshua, III (Wassila), Charles, Jr., Christopher (Jennifer), Robin, Martin, Jr. and Tiffany; two great grandchildren, Malcolm and Trinity; one sister, Phenton Bernice Moss; sister-in-law, Mary E. Moss; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joshua and siblings, John Moss, Virginia Moss Williams, Lucy Moss, Irene Moss Dildy and Elizabeth Moss.
Homegoing services will be at noon on Saturday, March 26, at First New Hope Baptist Church, 4508 Dickerson Road, Partlow, VA with Pastor Gilbert Garcia officiating. Interment will follow in the Moss Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends and family from 11 am until the hour of the service.
