Alberta Janice Sims Robinson Shelton departed this life at the Martha Jefferson Hospital on the morning of Sunday, April 5, 2009.
Alberta was born in Louisa County, Virginia, on January 24, 1916, to her parents, the late Tom and Alice Sims. She was the youngest of their five children, all of whom preceded Alberta to glory. She was also preceded to glory by her first husband, Joseph Robinson; by her son, Robert Lee Sims; her stepson, Marvin Shelton; and her step-daughter, Gertrude Bishop.
Alberta was raised and educated in Louisa and worked as a nurse for many years in Washington, D.C.
Alberta joined the Oak Grove Baptist Church at an early age and became a member of the Bright Hope Baptist Church when Oak Grove merged with this church. She remained a faithful member of Bright Hope throughout her life and attended regularly until her health failed. She loved her church and treasured her church family.
She was united in marriage on April 14, 1990, to Deacon Lewis R. Shelton Sr., of Galilee Baptist Church, whom she leaves to cherish their life together and mourn her passing.
She also leaves to mourn her loss, three grandchildren, Patricia Woolfolk, Larry Sims, Debbie Kay Sims, and their families; her devoted nephews, the Reverend Thomas Sims and his family, the Reverend Doctor Charles Sims and his wife, Fannie, and his family, devoted niece, Mrs. Julia Holland and her husband, Thomas, and her family; step-sons, Lewis Shelton Jr., Leroy Shelton and his wife, Vertie, James Shelton and his wife, Deloris, Roger Shelton and his wife, Brenda, Paul Shelton and his wife, Lola; and her step-daughter, Mattie Kenan and their families.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, April 9, 2009, at Bright Hope Baptist Church in Louisa, Virginia will the Rev. Dr. Charles H. Sims, Sr. eulogist. Interment will be at the church cemetery with the Reverend Alonzo Minor officiating.
