Mrs. Marshall was born and reared in Louisa, Virginia and graduated from Louisa Training School in 1941. After receiving her degree from Virginia State College (now Virginia State University) in 1949 with a major in Home Economics, she returned to teach for a few years in Louisa County before relocating to Chicago, Illinois where she taught in the Chicago Public School System until her retirement in 1987. Addie married William Marshall in 1978 and spent most of her married years with her husband in Chicago until their retirement and return to Louisa. Following the death of her husband nine years ago, she moved to Durham, North Carolina to live near her remaining brothers.
Addie was sincerely appreciative of the love and support she received over many years from her very dear friends Vivian Gills, Maxine Studley, Christine Thomasson, and Ceola Wright. The great friends she made at the Atria Senior Living Community in Durham comforted Addie in her later years.
Mrs. Marshall was a member of the First Baptist Church in Louisa, Virginia from her childhood. She was a highly skilled seamstress who specialized in designer patterns and who was well known for her beautifully made and tailored garments. Addie was an avid and highly skilled card player who particularly loved bridge and, in fact, was a member of the American Bridge Association, the Durham College View Duplicate Bridge Club, and a former member of three bridge clubs in Chicago. She also enjoyed besting opponents playing whist and pinochle, and besting the weeds and bugs as a dedicated gardener. Mrs. Marshall always enjoyed traveling and made trips all over the United States, the Caribbean, Europe, China, the Pacific, and Africa.
Mrs. Marshall is survived by her sister, Dorcas Montgomery of White Plains, MD; her brother, the Rev. Dr. Joseph E. Perkins Sr. and his wife Carrie; and brother Louis B. Perkins, Sr. and his wife Harriette Kennebrew Perkins, of Durham, NC; sister-in-law Deborah Perkins of Louisa, Virginia; cousins Marion and Carl Perkins of Louisa, Virginia; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews whom she loved and who loved her dearly.
